Writers For Disney’s ‘Tomorrowland’ Talk

I honestly didn’t even know this was in production, but yet here we are. After the monster success for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and to a lesser degree, but still financially successful The Haunted Mansion, Disney has chosen to taken their feature film versions of their theme park rides to the next level. This time, it’s not an individual ride, but rather an entire area of Disneyland, Tomorrowland.

The script is being written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, who wrote the upcoming The Hangover. They’re writing it with Dwayne Johnson in mind to star. The story is set to take place about 350 years in the future. Johnson’s character, Rip, is a present-day test pilot who is launched into the future.

Who knows what will become of this, but with Johnson’s involvement it reminds me a lot of Race to Witch Mountain at the moment. Financially, that might be okay for Disney, but I’m sure they’re looking for something a little more.

The Jungle Cruise was announced as being the next theme-park-ride-turned-feature-film a few years ago, but that seems to have gone by the wayside. What they really need to do is Matterhorn, as mentioned in the HBO series “Entourage.” It’s described as “Die Hard at Disney World.” In the show, Colin Farrell took the lead role. Tell me that wouldn’t be the money if it were ever realized. Fictionalized or not, I highly doubt Disney would ever allow a threat at the theme park.
