Ledger’s “Parnassus” Finally Coming to U.S.?

It looks like Heath Ledger’s last film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, will finally be getting a stateside release. After months of speculation on whether or not the film would see a US release, it seems that Sony has pulled out their sizable wallet. The Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group is in the final stages of talks to acquire the film. The plan is to have the movie out theatrically by the end of this year.  It will be released by Sony’s “Sony Classics” division. When the film played out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival a few months ago, several studios screened the film but it had no buyers at the time.  According to Variety, the news of the sale could be official sometime this week.  The Terry Gilliam directed “Parnassus, is getting released later this year in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

I just saw the trailer for the film, and it definitely looks like a Terry Gilliam movie. It’s a very trippy looking film. The movies production design looks amazing, and it’s sporting a top notch cast. It has three of my personal favorite actors in it, with Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and of course, Oscar-winner Heath Ledger. I’m definitely looking forward to this, and hope it gets picked up this week, so we get a release date soon. What do you think? Are you looking forward to Ledger’s last performance?
