Casting Nuggets: Orlando Bloom, Nicole Kidman Join Projects

Orlando Bloom is in talks to join Andrew McCarthy, Ellen Burstyn, Patricia Clarkson and Colin Firth in the ensemble drama, Main Street. The film is the one of the last projects written by the now-passed playwright Horton Foote, who also wrote the script for To Kill a Mockingbird.

The Hollywood Reporter” describes the story as such: the “drama centers on a group of people in a small town in North Carolina whose lives are shaken up when a stranger arrives. Bloom will play a small-town policeman, while McCarthy will play a Lothario business manager.

With a title like Main Street, doesn’t it just conjure up the image of an ensemble drama? Obviously very difficult to make a judgment on this just yet, especially since the central role of a young girl has yet to be cast. I will say, upon hearing the title, I immediately thought of “The Simpsons” Main Street Playset. Do you think there will be an ugly bartender serving up cough syrup-addled drinks?

The other bit of news concerns that of Nicole Kidman. “Variety” reports she has been cast in Woody Allen’s untitled new film. She’ll be joining the previously announced cast of Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas, Frieda Pinto and Naomi Watts.

Of course there’s still nothing known about this film, and nothing will be known for a while. That’s just the way Woody Allen films are.

I seriously think this is the hottest Nicole Kidman picture. Who's with me?
