Mark Ruffalo To Play Hulk with Motion Capture for Avengers Movie

This is yet another drop in a series of issues surrounding the upcoming The Avengers movie and potential Marvel franchise where Mark Ruffalo is set to take over where Ed Norton left off, starring as The Hulk.  The intriguing new twist to this particular post is that rather than using CGI to create the Hulk from scratch, as we have seen in both Ang Lee’s version and Louis Letterier’s movie, Ruffalo will actually play the Hulk with motion capture technology.  This should result in a more realistic rendering of the green one than we have previously seen.  Ruffalo spoke to Vulture about this (via Comingsoon):

“I’m really excited. No one’s ever played the Hulk exactly, they’ve always done CGI… They’re going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I’ll actually play the Hulk. That’ll be fun.”

Ruffalo added that he’s going more for Bill Bixby’s Banner: “I really love the first TV version of it, the Bill Bixby one… I’m gonna shoot for that a little bit. He was an everyman in it. He’s always on the run and trying to find love. It’s really a sympathetic character, before he turns into the Hulk and f*cks everything up.”

I can’t see this as anything but good news for the May 4th, 2012 movie release.  I like Ruffalo as an option to take over the role and him using mo-cap should be a step in the right direction to semi-capture the realism of the Ferigno original.  Smart move.
