The 64th annual DGA, Director’s Guild of America award nominees were announced today. These awards are for films released during the 2011 year. There are five nominees for best feature film director. The names included four repeat nominees and one newcomer. The 2011 DGA nominees are:
David Fincher, for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This film currently sits as my top film of the year. Stunning look and excellent, engrossing story. This is his 3rd nomination from the DGA. He was also nominated for The Social Network last year and 2008’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (also my film of the year for that year).
Alexander Payne, for The Descendants. This was a disappointing movie for me. Okay, not great. He was also nominated for Sideways.
Martin Scorcese, for Hugo. This is his 9th DGA nomination. He previously won the DGA for The Departed, which he also earned his first Oscar for.
Woody Allen, for Midnight in Paris. He previously won for Annie Hall (34 years ago) and has been nominated on three other occasions.
The newcomer to this category is Michel Hazanavicius for The Artist. It is unknown whether or not Prince will attend.
Notably missing from the list was the National Film Critics Society winner, Terrence Malick for Tree of Life. Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, not “War Eagle” Auburn fans, was also left out of the category. Let us know who your favorite’s are for this prestigious Oscar predictor. Source: LATimes
