‘Star Wars 7′ Movie Due in 2015 with Disney’s Purchase of Lucasfilm

Star Wars 7 Movie To Arrive in a Few Years

There will be a new Star Wars movie after all, despite creator George Lucas saying time and again that there never would be. With his recent “retirement” from big budget filmmaking, the head of Lucasfilm has decided to sell to behemoth Disney (owner of Pixar and ESPN among others). The first order of business as part of the $4 billion purchase (almost enough money to clean up after yesterday’s Sandy storm) was apparently to green light a new Star Wars film. Since that has always been Lucasfilm’s golden child and brand, Star Wars 7 and beyond will now continue for a new generation of fans and haters alike. Given the direction that Hollywood has been heading for years (sequel after sequel, franchise, tentpole pics, etc.), continuing Star Wars makes complete sense financially. Creatively, it also will give new filmmakers a chance to put their stamp on the world that Lucas created. That’s one thing for most film fans to look forward to I suppose. What do you think? Are you excited by this? Can 2015 get here soon enough? I wonder.
