Movie News & Movie Rumors Round-Up: Gangster Squad, Tom Hanks, Paul Thomas Anderson, more!

Since last week was skipped in lieu of the Holiday, there is more to post here than would seem necessary. Still, I’ll give much of it a go.

Mark Wahlberg of The Fighter is starring in Uncharted for David O. Russell again. Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci are among the others who are sought for roles.

The passing of comedic actor Leslie Nielsen and The Empire Strikes Back director Irvin Kerschner happened last week. Kerschner was 87 and Nielsen was 84. They’ll be missed.

Tom Hanks has landed on director Kathryn Bigelow’s Triple Frontier. They make an Oscar-winning duo now. She for last year’s Best Pic Hurt Locker, he for multiple acting performances.

Is it news to say that Heath Ledger will not appear in The Dark Knight Rises? I guess.

Twilight director Cathrine Hardwicke is looking to direct The Maze Runner. It’s the first book in a sci-fi series of books focused on young adults.

Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) is set to direct Gangster Squad which has been called one of the hottest scripts in town.

Noah Baumbach’s new project titled While We’re Young has potential leads lined up in Ben Stiller and James Franco.

Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights director) is adapting Thomas Pynchon’s novel “Inherent Vice.” The early rumor suggests Robert Downey Jr. is under consideration to play the lead role.

David Fincher’s The Social Network has been named best film of the year by the National Board of Review. It also won other key categories.
