Some new names and faces were added to the cast of the Ed Helms-starring comedy, Cedar Rapids, today, in the form of Sigourney Weaver, John C. Reilly and Alia Shawkat.
The pic was announced back in July, soon after Helms’ role in the blockbuster comedy, The Hangover. The script was written by Phil Johnston and is being directed by Miguel Arteta (Youth in Revolt). Sometime after the announcement, Anne Heche was signed to star opposite Helms. According to “Variety,” “Helms…plays a sad-sack insurance agent who goes to an industry convention to try and save the jobs of his colleagues.” Weaver, who can next be seen in Jim Cameron’s Avatar will play Helms’ former seventh-grade teacher. It’s unknown as to exactly which roles will be played by the other additions to the cast.
The new signings sound great to me. Weaver, the comedienne, was seen most recently in Baby Mama, and though she’s most known for bad-ass female roles, she’s shown a deft comedic touch throughout her career. Reilly is just a damn genius. That’s all that can be said. It’s a shame his starring turns in Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant have taken nose-dives at the box office. Shawkat is of course best-known for playing the object-of-affection cousin to Michael Cera’s George Michael in “Arrested Development.” Filming has already begun on the project and I’m looking forward to seeing how it shapes up.

By far the best Sigourney Weaver has looked, as a blond in Galaxy Quest.
Just had to throw it out there.
