Keeping up with ‘The Joneses’ becomes easier

Derrick Borte’s The Joneses has been picked up for U.S. distribution by Roadside Attractions, according to ScreenDaily. The film, which stars Demi Moore, David Duchovny and Amber Heard, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival to modest reviews, but received high marks for its strong cast.

The Joneses, Borte’s directorial debut, is a social satire centering around a fashionable family who move into an upper-class suburban neighborhood and are the talk of the town with their cutting-edge lifestyle and irresistible cool. The catch is that they are all fakes and the plants of a mysterious company, employed to sell their products to the community.

Like Rodrigo Garcia’s Mother and Child, purchased for distribution by Sony Pictures Classics this week, The Joneses is just now finding a buyer after playing at Toronto in September. Roadside Attractions plans to release the film theatrically in the Spring of 2010.
