Isla Fisher, wife of comedian Sacha Baron Cohen (as she’ll forever be known, at least until she breaks out with a hit of her own), is the potential star in a new comedy.
Titled Desperados (not to be confused with Robert Rodriguez’s version), the project was picked up by Universal and Ellen Rapoport wrote the script. Rapoport has mostly written TV to this point.
According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” “The story is set in motion when a woman sends an indignant e-mail to her new beau, who’s gone silent after they have sex. When she discovers he’s comatose in a Mexican hospital, she races south of the border with her friends in tow to intercept the e-mail before he recovers. The project has been described as a female-oriented ‘The Hangover.’”
The story sounds funny since it has a The Hangover spin to it and I think Fisher would be perfect for the lead role. I’ve liked some of Fisher’s work like Wedding Crashers and The Lookout, but according to our review, Fisher’s only star turn to-date, Confessions of a Shopaholic, was less than stellar. Hopefully Desperados won’t follow in those footsteps.
