Ricky Gervais to Host Golden Globes (Video)

Funnyman Ricky Gervais, lately noted for co-directing, co-writing and starring in The Invention of Lying has been tapped to host this year’s (or next year’s if you’re going to be a stickler about what calendar year it falls on) Golden Globe Awards ceremony.

This year’s ceremony will take place on January 17th and will apparently be the first time since 1995 since the Awards show has had a host. Nominations will be announced December 15th. Gervais is pretty much a perfect pick for this show as it pairs TV and film into one awards show and the actor has had feet in both media. He’s been one of the most beloved presenters (not hosts) at awards shows past and this seems like a natural transition for him. Hopefully he’ll work to make the night more enjoyable. I don’t anticipate a song-and-dance routine this year. That being said, if he does break into dance mode, I hope it looks something like this:
