Chris Pine is the new Jack Ryan

Its official, Chris Pine is the king of nabbing iconic movie roles. The Star Trek star has been cast in Paramount Pictures new Jack Ryan film. The actor, who we recently reported is likely to be working with D.J. Caruso in the new film The Art of Making Money, is currently filming Unstoppable for Fox with Denzel Washington. How many big roles can this guy take on? It’s as if Christian Bale had also been cast as James Bond, in addition to playing Batman.  Well, he did re-up in Terminator: Salvation, but I digress.

Regarding this news, Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman said: “Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan. With Chris in this role, we’ve taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise.”

So, the new Ryan film will be a reboot, the second in the series after Paramount rebooted the franchise with The Sum of All Fears, which starred Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan. This film will mark the first Jack Ryan film to not be based on one of Tom Clancy’s novels. What are your thoughts on Pine taking over the role? Personally, I would’ve liked to see an older actor in the role, as well as a script based on one of the books.
