R.I.P. Patrick Swayze

Saying “I’m Ghost like Swayze” used to be slang for saying you were leaving wherever it is you happened to be. Now, sadly actor Patrick Swayze is no longer with us as today he has lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 57.

Swayze had been diagnosed with the terminal illness about 20 months ago, letting his fans and the public in on his secret in March of 2008. He had last starred in the A&E drama series, “The Beast,” which ran for one 13 episode season last year.

Swayze will perhaps be remembered by most moviegoers (at least of the female persuasion) for his role in Dirty Dancing or maybe the aforementioned romantic drama, Ghost, alongside Demi Moore. He was the star of countless other big-name films from the late 80s to early 90s like The Outsiders, Red Dawn, Point Break and Road House. However, Swayze will be most remembered by myself for his hosting of “Saturday Night Live” and dancing alongside Chris Farley as Chippendales.

Rest in peace, Patrick. You will be missed.

I mean, the Chippendale skit is pure brilliance, but Road House and Point Break are his enduring roles IMO. I think the reason that Beast was cancelled (somewhat a surprising cancel from what I heard) was due to his illness. Pat didn't look like himself in later years, so let's just hope he is in a better place.

My all -time favorite Swayze role would have to be Dalton in "Road House". "I thought you'd be bigger" RIP Patrick.

  3. I agree Road House is a B-Movie CLASSIC. I love the film. R.I.P Patrick

There was a magazine i used to subscribe to years ago that I really loved that I think was called "Total Movie." Chris Gore had a part in it. It came with a DVD in every issue, which usually consisted of the latest trailer and maybe a short film or two. It went defunct, came back in another form very briefly and died off again. There was an article in one issue that detailed the "Top 10 Guy Movies," I believe, and 'Road House' was one of them. I've never seen the film, but because of that article I always thought I needed to. Now it appears that suggestion is magnified.

I really enjoyed Patrick Swayze’s films. He was a very underrated actor and had some very good movies. It was a shame that his career petered out near the end. However his best later work was his appearance in Donnie Darko. He best movies were Point Break and Roadhouse. He was also very good as a supporting role in the Gene Hackman movie, Uncommon Valor. Dirty Dancing was overrated and I’m sure every female will hate me for that comment. I really liked this guy and he will be missed. Rest in Peace Patrick.
