2008 was the year of the 80’s action hero’s return. Not only did Harrison Ford don Indy’s fedora again for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but Sylvester Stallone also went back into action as John Rambo, for the aptly titled Rambo. The fourth installment of the franchise apparently did well enough worldwide ($42 million domestic and $113 million overseas) to grant another sequel.
Nu Image/Millennium Films has given the go-ahead on another Rambo film, with Stallone starring and directing the film. Sly also served the same roles of star and director on the last year’s Rambo. The plot for the new film is described by Variety as:
“Rambo fighting his way through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border.â€
The plot sounds familiar, but the last film was better than most ever thought a fourth Rambo film could be, myself included. I just hope that they do end it with five films, Stallone is already 63. I don’t want to see a 70 year old Sly running around for Rambo 6.
Sly is in full comeback mode it seems, as his next project The Expendables will also be released next year. What is your reaction to this news of another John Rambo film? It seemed the last film book-ended the series so well, I thought it would be the final appearance of the character.
