We’ve talked a lot about the upcoming Robert Rodriguez-produced reboot/sequel, Predators, lately. Most of the talk in recent weeks has surrounded the possibilities of who would direct the film. Today, confirmation has been that Nimrod Antal (Vacancy) will direct the film and not Neil Marshall, whom I would have wanted.
Antal’s name probably isn’t very familiar to most of you or me, but he apparently made a name for himself with 2003′s Kontroll, a Hungarian romantic thriller. You can also see more of his directorial work later this year when Armored is released in December.
Harry at Aintitcool broke the news and continued to have a little chat with Rodriguez about the film. Interesting tidbits include: Rodriguez views Predators as being to Predator what Aliens was to Alien, hence the title similarities. The film will take place all on the alien planet which predators are based. Rodriguez also said the script he wrote in 1994 would have been impossible to make and will require cutting-edge technologies even now.
Vacancy is the only film of Antal’s I’ve seen to this point, so I wouldn’t judge him on that. Armored is supposedly good (it sold Rodriguez), but for whatever reason the trailer reminds of Chill Factor (yes, that one). We’ll see how it goes, but that’s what’s going to happen. Are you disappointed?
