New Movie Posters For Old Movies

That classic movie channel, Turner Classic Movies (TCM), will be debuting their “Summer Under the Stars” series throughout the month of August, which features films starring an actor/actress each day of the month. To kick off their celebration, they’ve released newly created posters for twelve different movies slated to air during the series. For a full list of star-themed days and the movies to play during that time, click here.

Faithful readers are undoubtedly aware of our fervent adoration for movie posters, as evidenced by our Weekly Movie Poster Round-Up column and the background image for our Twitter page. We just can’t get enough and it’s always cool to see a different take on film art after you’ve been bombarded with the same image for years.

The twelve posters consists of new images for Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, To Catch a Thief, The Letter, Gilda, Dr. Strangelove, Grapes of Wrath, The Big Heat, The Magnificent Seven, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Safety Last, Jailhouse Rock and High Society.

I can pretty safely say I love them all. It would have been great if they did a poster for every film or even one per star, but the fact that they did a Hitchcock and a Kubrick, I guess I shan’t complain. For some reason the Safety Last poster featuring Harold Lloyd, the third best silent comedian (behind Keaton and Chaplin), reminds me of the end of The Invention of Lying trailer. Comic geniuses at work. Enjoy.
